The Black Phone Horror

The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for Mammon in Michael Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top biopic regarding the shamed TV preacher and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield plays the venal Jim, who declares initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple commence monetising the people's spiritual convictions. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, overdone appearance and bad faith, yet Chastain achieves to depict Tammy Faye as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, Film4
